Itchy Moss

IMG_8594

In the southern US states  you have within an arms reach the beautiful moss hanging from oak trees.  It’s easy to grab and drape over your arm or make a touristy necklace. This is a plant and is home to  little bugs called “chiggers” , so don’t be surprised when you remove it and see the little red bites.  Other than that if  you get itchy to take some home as a souvenir, handle it carefully with gloves and put it in a plastic bag.  If you are using it for a decorative planter  it will stay alive in a warm humid area.  For indoor decorations you may want to consider delicately washing it in soapy water or placing it in the microwave for a few seconds to get rid of the critters.

Plenty of sunshine to go around

One thing you’ll never hear me complain about is the Savannah area weather. Winter temperatures rise and fall and some of the cooler days are usually quite welcomed.  Just bring plenty of socks along to wear with your sandals.  With all kidding aside,  you should find the temperatures pleasant for most of the year with the exception of July and August which can host 90 degrees everyday with very high humidity.

Local residents, I95 travelers through Georgia, and visitors to Savannah will not be disappointed in the rich history they will find in Effingham County Georgia.  Located 25 miles north of Savannah between the Savannah and Ogeechee Rivers, you will find numerous sites to visit, many noted on the National historic registry.  A great resource to help plan your visit is the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce.
