Itchy Moss

IMG_8594

In the southern US states  you have within an arms reach the beautiful moss hanging from oak trees.  It’s easy to grab and drape over your arm or make a touristy necklace. This is a plant and is home to  little bugs called “chiggers” , so don’t be surprised when you remove it and see the little red bites.  Other than that if  you get itchy to take some home as a souvenir, handle it carefully with gloves and put it in a plastic bag.  If you are using it for a decorative planter  it will stay alive in a warm humid area.  For indoor decorations you may want to consider delicately washing it in soapy water or placing it in the microwave for a few seconds to get rid of the critters.
