High Tide, Low Tide and Beach Side

beachsigns

The ocean shore offers a generous amount of summer fun for it’s visitors. Along with the relaxing sounds ,salt air, wildlife and cool breezes, there’s the refreshing feeling of embracing nature with a cool dip into the water.

Just as the weather changes so do the tides and sometimes this happens very quickly.  It’s not a bad idea when laying out your “sand spot” that you take a minute to check  any warning signs and lifeguard flags regarding current conditions. Location markers are generally on public beaches and can be helpful for friends joining later to locate you.  With the millions of people that visit beaches during summer vacation it is not the usual to hear about the dangers.  Taking the few extra minutes to check the conditions is a few minutes well spent.

Happy beaching ….take home lots of vitamin Sea

Smallest Church

smallest church

Just south of Savannah Georgia on Coastal Hwy US 17 in Townsend Georgia you can visit the smallest church in America. Recently rebuilt due to a fire it is a quiet spot with a picnic area if you are traveling in the area.  Along this route there are many historic markers and further south is the City of Darien.  Definitely worth the stop if you are in the coastal Georgia area and it gets you off I95 for some site seeing.

Bottle trees

bottletree

I had not lived in South Georgia very long, when I was invited to dinner at a co-workers home. I couldn’t help but to notice a small tree with bottles on the branches off the steps of her back door. When I asked about this unusual tree she said that was where she recycled her wine bottles and at the same time kept bad vibes away from her home. Never hearing of this before I just had to get one for my yard. Cool looking , fun conversation piece, and could come in useful.

I shopped the usual garden centers and junk stores but had no luck finding what grabbed me or seemed affordable for used bottles.

Then one afternoon I was heading out to the beach, on Hwy 21 on St. Helena Island South Carolina and on the road side there they were.  It was fun selecting my tree and talking to the lady who made them. She went on to tell me the locals believed that bad spirits were attracted to the colored glass, especially blue , and the wind carries them into the bottles where they get trapped….And that’s what it’s all about

I’m thrifty

shopspring

Nothing says “stop the car “ more than good stuff sitting on the sidewalks beside a lamp post in a small town on a sunny day.  A wicker rocker, a chenille bedspread, a painted dresser, and  porch decorations are just a few of the deals I have found shopping at the thrift stores in Springfield.

It is definitely worth putting on your “must do” list when considering a relaxing day out to look for decorating items. Most of the shops are open  Tuesday-Saturday.
