High School Graduation information

IMG_0549

South Effingham High School:  Saturday, May 26th 7 PM

GRADUATION PARKING

ALL GRADUATES must park in the middle school (SEMS) teacher parking lot.

Parking for Graduation is always difficult. To handle a large number of vehicles, Marlow Elementary School will open their parking lot, and Effingham County Schools will run shuttle buses from Marlow to SEHS for Graduation. The shuttles will resume from SEHS to Marlow after Graduation. Please utilize this service that is being provided.

Passengers will be dropped off from the shuttle buses at the stadium so you will not have far to walk.

Shuttles will begin at 5:30 PM. The last shuttle before Graduation ceremonies will depart Marlow at 7:00 PM. Graduation begins at 7:00 PM.

After Graduation, shuttles will begin running at 8:30 and continue until everyone has been returned to their vehicles.

If you park on SEHS campus, there are a few details that will assist in the smooth flow of traffic.

  1. Parking is limited, so you are encouraged to utilize the shuttle bus service or at least carpool.
  2. NJROTC and SEHS staff will direct you to available parking spaces.
  3. Handicapped parking is available with an authorized permit displayed. Enter through the parking lot next to the gym and proceed to the gate at the back of the parking lot to the gate that is open for vehicle traffic which is near the wooded area.
  4. If you park in the parking lot next to the gym, you MUST exit onto HWY 30 turning to the right. (NO VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED TO TURN LEFT ONTO HWY 30 WHEN EXITING).
  5. If you park in the parking lot between the high school and middle school, then you may turn left onto HWY 30 through the bus gate.
  6. If you need to travel Nease, you will need to use Hester Rd. and travel it around to Nease. No one will be able to turn right out of the bus gate towards HWY 21. If you would rather watch SEHSGraduation from the comfort of your air-conditioned home, you can access streaming of the event athttp://www.esenetworks.com/live-events.aspx?id=28629

Effingham County High School

Traveling through the state of Georgia you can expect to see the flags and variety of monuments displayed by the huge fan base for the Georgia Bulldogs.

The University of Georgia and their much-loved mascot UGA,  an English Bulldog brings in high fan attendance in the South East Conference for college football.

There have been 10 Bulldogs that trace their ancestry back to UGA 1 in 1956.

For the history of UGA the mascot: https://georgiadogs.com/sports/2017/6/16/uga.aspx

In 2008 a BBC documentary, “Pedigree exposed” concluded that bulldogs and other breeds with squat bodies and short snouts may have difficulty breathing and other health problems.

UGA has an air-conditioned doghouse on the sideline with the cheerleaders.  The family who owns the dog is looking at breeding options so UGA XI will be more capable of handling the rigorous duty of mascot.

The  complete 2018 Georgia football schedule:

Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricane season officially starts in the Atlantic on June 1, 2018, and May 15, 2018, in the eastern Pacific.

Hurricane Matthew barreled through the Carribean and up the Florida, Georgia and South Carolina coast.  I followed the evacuation order and moved inland approximately 45 miles.  Feeling comfortable with my decision I was totally taken off guard with the strength of this power of nature.  Awakening to the howling, smashing, cracking, sideways rain in the dark, really frightened me.  I had no idea what to expect when the daylight came but I knew it was going to be bad.  It was a mess, even with the downgrade to a category one.

I can’t stress enough to be prepared and listen to your local emergency management.

For a readiness checklist: https://www.ready.gov/hurricane-toolkit

Check to see if your area has a Hurricane Registry like the one offered by the Georgia Department of Health.
