Hurricane season officially starts in the Atlantic on June 1, 2018, and May 15, 2018, in the eastern Pacific.
Hurricane Matthew barreled through the Carribean and up the Florida, Georgia and South Carolina coast. I followed the evacuation order and moved inland approximately 45 miles. Feeling comfortable with my decision I was totally taken off guard with the strength of this power of nature. Awakening to the howling, smashing, cracking, sideways rain in the dark, really frightened me. I had no idea what to expect when the daylight came but I knew it was going to be bad. It was a mess, even with the downgrade to a category one.
I can’t stress enough to be prepared and listen to your local emergency management.

Check to see if your area has a Hurricane Registry like the one offered by the Georgia Department of Health.
