Located 28 miles northwest of Savannah Georgia by way of Georgia Hwy 17N you will find yourself imagining life in the 1800’s, as you see the beautifully preserved Victorian era homes. Some of the historic homes were built by affluent Savannah folks as summer homes or get a ways during yellow fever outbreaks.

 

 

Graced with walking trails, slow paced narrow streets for an easy stroll, this is a “must see”destination for Savannah area residents and visitors.

 

 

In 1864 General Sherman and his troops passed through Guyton on his “March to the Sea” .The confederacy had built a general hospital in Guyton in 1862 that provided medical, food, clothing and lodging to thousands of confederate soldiers. The Central Railroad of Georgia in Guyton known as Station 30 was on the line from Savannah to Macon.

 

 

Like much of small town America the appeal of “everyone knows each other by name”, and locally owned shops are drawing locals and visitors.  Lunch, dinner, antiques, service stations, hardware, hair salons are situated on Central Ave.  in a” park and walk” setting.

 

 

Guyton is drawing many new residents was well . This one stoplight city is under construction with a new “roundabout”, and a mix of old and new go together like “sweet tea and cornbread”, which is served in the local restaurants for your southern food fix.
